Green Card Pathways for Students and Faculty/Staff on Humanitarian Visas

Presentation Description:

The presenters will focus on providing an overview of green card pathways available to international students, faculty, and staff who are on humanitarian visas (e.g. asylum, TPS, DACA, DED, Parolees, etc.). The presentation will also focus on the various steps required to apply, as well as the unique challenges faced by individuals on humanitarian visas with respect to adjustment of status and consular processing.

Learning Objectives:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the various green card pathways available to international students, faculty, and staff on humanitarian visas. This includes employment-based and family-based options.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the specific process and steps required to apply for a green card. This includes the immigrant petition, as well as either adjusting status or consular processing.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the complications that can arise for those on humanitarian visas. This includes travel restrictions, adjustment eligibility, and maintenance of current visa/stay throughout the green card process.
