Sara Thurston, PhD, is director of the office of international student and scholar services at Northwestern University. She previously worked in international education with experiences at Roosevelt University, University of Chicago, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and most recently nearly 17 years at Kansas State University. She received a BA in Spanish and art history; an MEd in counseling and college student personnel, both at the University of Louisville; and PhD in higher education from Loyola University-Chicago. She is very active in NAFSA, with numerous presentations and leadership roles over her career including currently the chair of the 2025 Annual Conference Committee.
