Presentation Description:

How can we support the diverse backgrounds of international college students through extracurricular activities? This session explores a virtual and budget-friendly conversation partner initiative tailored for new international students, detailing its implementation and the insights gained from program evaluations. Additionally, the session will present the program improvements based on student feedback collected over the past seven years.

Learning Objectives:

  • Gain insights into the structure of a virtual conversation partner program, including training materials, handbooks, and conversation content, as a framework for building their unique programs to support student needs.
  • Advocate for resources by articulating the effectiveness of pre-arrival support programs for international students and how these programs can aid in smoother transitions.
  • Evaluate college assessment data to create effective transition programs of their own, based on feedback and suggested improvements from participants.
