Immigration 101: An In-Depth Exploration of the U.S. Immigration System

Location: Grand Ballroom E
Presentation Description: We will provide an actionable overview of the entire U.S. immigration system, including immigrant and non-immigrant statues, asylum/refugee processes, deportation/removal, and temporary relief measures. We will discuss contemporary issues and common pitfalls impacting international students and global populations at U.S. universities. DSO's will learn to apply immigration knowledge to develop best practices at their home institutions supporting incoming students, non-F-1 global students, vulnerable F-1 students, as well as people in immigration transition.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn about the wide U.S. immigration system beyond of F-1 and J-1 regulations
  • Learn how to talk to students coherently about the U.S. immigration system (and its impact on F-1 status)
  • Leave with ideas for ways to proactively engage and assist your global population with questions related to the U.S. immigration system
