Smooth Like Butter: Allies Like no Other, Spreading International Support

Presentation Description:

Wouldn’t our campuses be more welcoming to international students if domestic students & colleagues were more knowledgeable about the international student experience? Learn how to present information & trainings to non-international education folks on how to actively support international communities as allies. UCLA Dashew Center Programming staff will share examples they have presented to student leaders & campus partners to promote more inclusive & welcoming environments. We’ll share suggestions for creating effective trainings that you can tailor to any campus audience.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the meaning of cultural competence as well as the importance and contributions of international communities on campus.
  • Understand what it means to be an ally as well as the importance of practicing and modeling empathy and inclusive language.
  • Leave with suggestions of how to implement trainings with campus partners on their own campuses.
